There are truisms when it comes to building relationships and closing sales. It does have to happen in that order. 

First — starting a conversation will achieve immediate results. That begins with picking up the phone. Yes it's VOIP, a Bluetooth headset, a dialer, but the concept hasn't changed since the very first sales call.
A call is warm, it's live, and most of all it's fluid. It gets you to the next level. Even if that's a hang up (it happens).
Second — when appropriate, make your next meeting in person. Nothing builds long term relationships like a handshake, or a fist bump.
